Over the past two weeks I have spent a lot of time in production departments trying to implement "maximum" systems; then I realised that several points revolved around one term, the jig. For a few days I thought everyone knew what it was. Unfortunately, I realised that not everyone is familiar with this trivial tool that is used so much in the automotive industry, as well as in other contexts such as medicine.
A jig is a type of tool that is used to guide or control the movement of another tool, such as a saw or drill, in order to make precise cuts or holes in a workpiece. Jigs are often used in woodworking and metalworking to ensure accuracy and repeatability in the manufacturing process. Jigs can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, and plastic, and can be designed for use with a wide range of tools and equipment.
